Reading 2 - Planning my Approach!

Hey Guys,

Welcome back to my blog, after many hours of honestly not having a clue whether I am doing this right or wrong I started just thinking and writing about my two topics for the book we are writing.

1) What is level design?
2) The key principles of level design.

I began by asking myself questions which you can see below in the images I have attached.
I underlined the important words which will be my main focus for researching.

For Level I thought about the similarities of each level, how with each level the character could be upgraded, how many levels they would be, how difficult they will be as the game progresses on, will the game change as you go onto higher levels.

For Design I thought about the layout of each level, is the game 2D or 3D, will the design of the game change on different devices that you can play it on, the visual design elements - the colours, the mood and the different genres.

I also looked at keywords to help me understand what the words mean in a deeper way.

Next I looked at the key principles of level design. Here I thought about the player and what the player would look for when playing the game. I made a list of what I think is important to look for & achieve when creating each level in a game

I also looked at the Game Level Process. This is how from start to finish every level in a game should be, this is the process behind each level.

I plan on using Google Scholar and the TU Dublin database to look for the different keywords I will be researching for week 3's reading task.

Anyway guys, chat soon!

My First Game Brainstorm.

https://www.123rf.com/photo_83383233_close-up-of-notepad-with-creative-brainstorm-sketch-and-colorful-pencils-brainstorming-concept.html Hi Guys, Welcome back to my blog, in today's blog post I will be telling you guys about my ideas for my video game. When I think about making a game I think it needs to be a game that everyone will enjoy. After having a look around the internet I know have a good idea of what my four possible games could be. Game 1:  For my first game I would like it to be similar to The Sims 4. The Sim was first released back in 2000. It has many different versions of the game which has made this game the "best selling video game series of all time". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sims  . I have always like the idea of being able to build your own imaginary life on a video game, from personalizing your characters, to building your own houses/business, to earning money, to having relationships/friendships within this video world. Introduction to me being me!

I never know how to write about myself. I always feel so embarrassed and I don't know why😅 Like last year when Margret asked us to do a video about ourselves, I wanted to cry as I never know what to say about myself without sounding big headed! So here comes the cringe fest.... My name is Elizabeth, I am 23 years old and I was born and bred in Maynooth. It is a nice a place but now its just full of college students who are taking over (I know i'm a college student but these people are from the country you know)😂.           I still live at home with my mum and recently my boyfriend Dan has moved in with us as well. I have a sister Meaghan who is getting married next year to her fiancee Lesley. In the last couple of years we have also gotten in contact with my half sister, so our family just keeps on growing which is great.  We are a very close family and I wouldn't have it any other way. I am very lucky to have such amazing people to be there for me ...

Unity 6

Hi Guys, Welcome back to my blog, for today I will be talking about a new set of unity tutorials which are extremely long!! I really did enjoy these tutorials as it was a new set of them so more to learn, I know I keep saying this but this semesters unity is so much better then last semester I really really like them! Anyway lets talk about unity! I found these sets of tutorials very easy which is a good thing as it means I am getting the hang of things!  We started by adding a background and picking our character, we then began to add some code for the player to control the character.  (screenshot of my code) (Screenshot of character jumping)  We then added an obstacle for the character to jump over. I found by following the tutorials the code is getting easier. Overall I am really happy with my progress on unity! Anyway until next week -Elizabeth
